Bagong Bayani – Island Pacific Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Calif. — The latest recipient for the Bagong Bayani Profiles is Enrique Boraka III. He is the store manager for Island Pacific Pittsburg and has been with the company for a year and a half now.
Boraka says that during the start of the pandemic his focus was keeping his employees calm and informed on the current situation.

“As a store manager I try to be on the forefront we’re in,” said Boraka. “I try to listen to my staff and employees be more in depth with them on the things we need to do. We need to be on top of our game because we need to be able to cater the needs of our community.”
As the lockdown days turned into weeks, Boarka noticed the silver lining in this pandemic.

“Having experienced these difficult times, as I kept saying, it made us closer,” he said. “It made us bond more. It made us go back to our roots, be more with our families, be more concerned of the things that are more important to us and also on our part we get to be recognized as front liners too.”

As California begins to loosen its restrictions on the shelter-in-place order, Boraka is confident that his Island Pacific community of Pittsburg as well as other parts of the world have learned to be more kinder and hopefully it will continue.

We can pull through,” said Boarka. “This will not be given to us if we cannot carry this out and pull through this epidemic. Lets stay strong. Let’s stay safe. Thank You.”
