Bagong Bayani – Island Pacific Union City

UNION CITY, Calif. –  Jun Macaspac is the latest feature of Bagong Bayani Profiles. He is the store manager of Island Pacific Supermarket in Union City. Macaspac has been working with this company for 18 years. He started as a grocery manager and was promoted to store manager in September of 2016.

Macaspac recalls the start of the lockdown which drew a vast amount of shoppers to his store. He, along with his fellow employees, said they never saw anything like it before. Macaspac also acknowledges that during this pandemic time he along with his workers are not hindered from serving their customers, especially to the elders.
The new online feature has really helped in caring for the seniors and those who have difficulties making it to the marketplace, according to Macaspac.  

“I feel so happy even just yesterday I delivered twice for a family who are so afraid to go out from their house,” said Macaspac. “That’s why I told them, just give us a call. I’m going to deliver it to you, no problem. And even they are giving tips to us. No, that’s our job. Actually don’t give anything we’re so happy that we help you too. That’s why in return they’re so grateful for us.” Macaspac said that a welcome side effect of the coronavirus shelter in place, the community and the grocer are starting to become more than just cashiers and customers. They are getting to know each other by name.

He hopes that when the world finds a way to defeat the virus we will all be more kind to each other. “We are hoping this virus will be over soon so we can go back to our normal, daily lives,” said Macaspac. ”Thank you so much.”
